Insensys - founded locally six years ago - supplies fibre-optic
sensing technology to three-quarters of the world’s major wind
turbine manufacturers, as well as wind farm owners and
operators. The company spread out from one into five separate
units over five years at Compass Point, Ensign Way, Hamble.
From the end of March, however, the 40 staff move under one roof
at Ocean House, a 14,500 sq ft building in Segensworth West,
near Fareham.
ODT carried out the
12-week design-and-build refurbishment on behalf of
Buckland Development, expanding the internal lettable
space by 1,000 sq ft, refurbishing the interior,
installing new windows, respraying the exterior from
black to silver and providing an air conditioning
solution.
Andrew Saunders, an ODT director, said: “Ocean House
represents a landmark relocation deal, and we are
delighted to have played a key role in what is a great
business success story in Hampshire. It was a privilege
to carry out the design-and-build refurbishment on
behalf of Buckland Development, the landlord and
developer.”
Martin Jones, co- founder and chairman of Insensys,
which had a 5.2m turnover in 2008, said: “We’re pleased
at the professional way the project has been carried
out; the new office provides us with the space for our
anticipated expansion through 2009 as we develop our
presence in our key markets in the Far East and the USA.

Local commercial property agency Hughes
Ellard acted for Winchester-based owner and
developer Buckland Development, advising on
the acquisition and the 650,000
refurbishment of the former radio station.
Insensys was represented by Goadsby on the
relocation and acquisition.
David Heda, Head of Industrial Agency at
Goadsby’s Southampton office, said:
“Insensys considered a number of properties
but Ocean House provided the most flexible
and suitable space to accommodate their
office and research and development
facility.”
Details of lease and rental terms have not
been disclosed.
Insensys, a member of the European Wind
Energy Association, is recognised as the
world's premier wind energy rotor and blade
load measurement company.
In the past two years alone the specialist
has delivered more than 1,000 systems and
20,000 sensors.
The cutting-edge technology, with
fibre-optic sensing systems, increases
reliability and reduces running costs by
improving turbine performance.
An American company, Moog Inc, now owns 70
per cent of Insensys following an 11m shares
acquisition on January 30.
Moog Inc is a worldwide designer,
manufacturer and integrator of precision
control components and systems.
Whilst the majority of Insensys’ business is
in the booming wind energy market, its
aerospace division is also expanding and
will benefit from the new location.
